The Cycle for Life program has been a lifeline for youth in our village, teaching essential skills while steering them away from drugs and unwanted pregnancies. This initiative provides hope and a pathway to a brighter future for many young people.
This year, six youths in our program had to drop out of school due to the challenging economic conditions in Zimbabwe. In our village, many families earn a living hauling rafts from the gorge for tourist rafting companies, earning just two to five dollars a day. Families struggle to meet their basic needs, let alone afford school fees. As a result, the program, originally designed as an after-school initiative, has become a substitute for school and a space to nurture hope and keep dreams for the future alive.
When young individuals drop out of school, it creates more than just an educational gap—it fosters despair and broken dreams. This year, some of these young people, whose aspirations seemed shattered, had the opportunity to cross the border to a neighboring country to showcase their cycling skills and share what God has been doing in their lives. Along the way, they learned to repair their bicycles, but the lack of spare parts presented significant challenges. Undeterred, they shifted their focus to playing soccer and sharpening their minds through chess.
At Pillar of Legacy, we often say, “True transformation is the work of God alone.” We are thankful that God allows us to partner with Him in small ways, and we are equally grateful for your partnership in this journey. Together, we continue to foster a community that dreams with God.
Time does not permit us to share in detail how these programs steer young people away from drugs and unwanted pregnancies, but we look forward to including these stories in a future newsletter. Thank you for standing with us in this transformative work!
